Planning a Funeral Mass

The death of a loved one is one of the most difficult experiences of life. Our belief in the suffering, death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ is the foundation of our Catholic faith.

Parish information & guidelines

The funeral rites

Everything we do here on earth should prepare us for our death, the Day of Judgement and eternity. The Catholic funeral unfolds in three parts:

  • The Vigil. Prayers at the funeral home the evening before, which may be followed by eulogies.
  • The Funeral Mass. Offered in church the following morning for the forgiveness of the sins of the deceased and God's mercy on their soul. The pastor offers the Mass and the parish provides the organist.
  • The Committal. Burial at the cemetery immediately follows, leaving us with the hope that the deceased will share in the Resurrection of Christ.

Funeral Masses may be offered Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (except legal holidays and holy days of obligation), depending on the availability of the pastor, so the family's first choice of day may not be possible. The body or the cremains of the deceased must be present; a "Memorial Mass" is not accepted except in extreme circumstances.

Who may have a Funeral Mass

Any Catholic living within the parish boundaries is entitled to a funeral service. A "funeral service" does not automatically mean a Funeral Mass; it should reflect the life and the degree of faith practice of the deceased.

  1. Registered, active and practicing parishioners, including those who spent their last days in a convalescent care center, may be offered the Vigil at the funeral home, the Funeral Mass in church, and burial at the cemetery.
  2. Catholics who are not registered at SS. Peter and Paul, or are not active, practicing Catholics, may be offered a Liturgy of the Word at the funeral home on the day of burial and burial services at the cemetery. Archdiocesan policy does not allow a Funeral Mass to be celebrated in a funeral home.

Informacje dotyczące pogrzebów

Śmierć bliskiej osoby to jedno z najtrudniejszych doświadczeń w życiu. Nasza wiara w cierpienie, śmierć i zmartwychwstanie Jezusa Chrystusa jest fundamentem naszej wiary katolickiej.

Proboszcz odprawia Mszę Świętą i parafia zapewnia organistę.
Prawo diecezjalne zabrania odprawiania Mszy Świętych w domu pogrzebowym.
